For those WPP16 attendees who are interested, we will organize a post-conference excursion to the Åland Islands to visit the classic metapopulation study system 1-3 September.
We will leave from Helsinki on Thursday 1st of September at 5 am and travel with bus to Turku, where we take a ferry to Åland. There will be a conference room for us, where you will hear general information about the study systems. From the ferry you can also admire archipelago between Turku and Åland. It takes six hours for the ferry to go to Åland.
In Åland we will travel with bus and visit the habitat patches where researches will tell you about their work and you will be able to get to know beautiful nature of Åland. We will stay in a hotel one night and continue the excursion on a next day. There’s also a plan to visit Kastelholm castle and Nåtö biological station.
We will leave Åland at midnight of Friday 2nd of September. There are cabins for us, one cabin fits up to four persons. The ferry arrives to Helsinki at 10 am on Saturday 3rd of September.
The cost of the excursion is still an estimation. It will depend on how many people participate and whether you will to share your hotel room and cabin in ferry. Prepare to pay about 330 – 430 euros. This price includes travels, accommodation and meals.
Please, take comfortable shoes and be prepared for the possibility of rain.
